Olay Creme Ribbons

I don’t know why but I’ve noticed that my skin is extra dry this winter in comparison to previous winters. Hence, this winter I’m all about finding products that will fix my dry skin.

I can’t remember who recommended this to me, maybe I read about it in the magazine. I found and bought this body wash from Walmart, and it is pretty good.

It has a light creamy scent, foams up easily with a thick decadent lather, and leaves your skin feeling soft and moisturized. With this body wash, I don’t need to jump out of the shower and lather myself in body lotion.

If your skin is feeling dry all over, give this a try, it might help.

*Disclaimer - it is difficult to recommend skincare products, because everyone’s skin is different, just because it worked for me, doesn’t mean it will for you. Please try and see.*

Dry Flaky Lips No More

Winter brings dry skin and dry lips for most of us, but with this LUSH little jar of sweetness, no more dry flaky lips at least :)

It is the LUSH lip scrub, I bought it in the bubble gum flavour, also available in other flavours like sweet lips, mint Julip etc. Use the following link to see it on the LUSH.CA site.

http://www.lush.ca/shop/catzoom/index.html?cat=Lip%20Balms%20and%20Scrubs&sort_field=&sexpand=&itemcount=500

I love this little thing, to use this you just rubs it on your lips for a few seconds and the best part is - YOU CAN LICK IT OFF afterwards, it is completely edible. You can use this scrub anytime anywhere! It leaves you with lovely bubble gum scented soft lips, ready for lipstick, lip balm or just soft bare lips.

Precision Pore Cleansing Pad

So I went to the Sephora for the 20% OFF Sale and stocked up on some products I always use. I also picked up some new products to try while I was there. This little pink thing is a great little tool. I tried it a few times and love it. Thought I share it with you.

It is the Precision Pore Cleansing Pad

What it is:

A flexible silicone pad that gently massages the face and helps deliver deeply clean, radiant results.

What it does:

This tool uses tiny bristles to invigorate the skin and effectively clean pores, helping to exfoliate and soften the skin.

This was $7 at Sephora.

Loreal Studio Secrets MAGIC PERFECTING BASE review

Tried this product for a bit now. Over all it is a pretty good primer and does what it claims.

It is different from the famous Smashbox photofinish primer, it is more of a cream texture, and needs longer blending time. The Smashbox photofinish primer is more of a silicon gel base. The formula of this primer is rather similar to Clarins Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch.

It is a great product to use around the eyes to fill in fine lines prior to makeup application, this products fills in fine lines better than most of the other primers I've tried in the past. I think this would be great product for mature skin and would give the skin a very velvety finish.

Here's picture of my skin before:

Here's a picture of my skin after in the same lighting:

As you can see from the before and after pics, the product evened out the skin in a very subtle way. On my good skin days, I just use this product and apply concealer where I need to and its good enough.

Review: L'Oreal HIP Color Chrome Eyeliner

Quick review for you. These L'oreal HIP colour chrome Eyeliners are wonderful. They are cheaper drugstore versions of the Urban Decay 24/7 Glideon liners, but they are just as good.

They are long lasting, easy to apply, and smudge proof once set with shadow. You should always set your cream/wax based products with a dry powder products for long lasting effect.

The HIP liner is a little more creamier in texture than the Urban Decay liner. Unlike the Urban Decay, it's only available in 4 colours at Shoppers Drug Mart, while Urban Decay Liners comes 23 shades. However, most of us wants and only use the basic black or brown liner anyways.

Great product to save you a few bucks.

Show and Tell - Teddy Eye Kohl by MAC

This Teddy eye kohl by MAC is one of my favorite eye kohls when I don't want to use black. The Deep bronze colour of this liner is great for all eye colours, but it isa particular great for green/blue eyes . This liner combined with bronze or red/orange toned eyeshadows is lovely for girls with blue/green eyes.

WHY? This goes back to basic colour theory. Complimentary colours intensify each other when placed side by side. If you look the the diagram below you will see the colour wheel, complimentary colours are colours that are opposite to each other on the colour wheel. As you can see opposite to blue/green on the colour wheel is orange/purple.

However, many of us would not put on bright orange/purple eyeshadow on a daily bases. However, Eyeshadow/liners that are in the wine/plums/reddish bronze family still have the same effect. These colours are much more wearable.

To demonstrate, here's a before picture of one of the bridesmaids I worked on who has pale blue eyes.

Here's the after picture. I used the Teddy eye kohl blended out with MAC Bronze, Mulch and Woodwinked eye shadows. See how the reddish bronze warm tones in the Eye kohl and eye shadows made her eyes pop?

Hope you liked this post.

Show and Tell - MAC NEW Haute & Naughty Lash Mascara and What I do to create full and lush lashes

Lately I've been getting a lot of people asking me if I'm wearing false eyelashes at work. Seriously? Does anyone wear false eyelashes to work? Especially when work means wearing ugly hospital scrubs and bright yellow Crocs for me.

So I would kindly smile and explain, NO, they are not false eyelashes, its just this new mascara. IT IS the HAUTE & NAUGHTY LASH mascara by MAC.

WHAT'S SPECIAL ABOUT MAC HAUTE & NAUGHTY LASH MASCARA?

It is a 2 in 1 mascara.

If you look at the picture, you will see that it is one tube of mascara but it has 2 mascara wands. You can use twist up the pink wand for a light application or twist up the pink wand and the purple wand together for a dramatic application.

I have what some would say typical Asian lashes. I'm not blessed with thick, full and lush lashes that fan upwards. My Chinese lashes grows downwards, many of you who are Asian might know what I mean by this.

From my own experience I've discovered a few tricks and products that work well for me.

  1. My favorite eyelash curler is Shu Uemura eyelash curler, the curvature of the lash curler seem to work best for Asian lashes.
  2. Always use a WATERPROOF mascara as your base for any other mascara. WATERPROOF mascaras help hold the shape or your curled lashes. Maybelline makes several really good drugstore mascaras. My favorite one is KISS ME Heroine make LONG AND CURL mascara from Asia. You can get this at Pacific Mall in Toronto or Ebay.
  3. To create even more dramatic look. Use a eyelash primer right after curling your lashes. I would recommend Curl Curl Curl Towards the sky by Majolica Majorca from Asia. You can get this at Pacific Mall or Ebay as well.
  4. After primer and waterproof mascara, build on top with your favorite mascara - my current favorite is MAC Haute & Naughty Lash mascara

To demonstrate, here's some pictures:

BARE LASHES - Curled with Shu Uemura

Primer on the Left eye only and Waterproof mascara on the right eye

Primer + Waterproof mascara on the left and only Waterproof mascara on the right. See how the primer is working already and making the lashes on the left fuller and longer?

Now with that as your base, apply another coat of MAC Haute and Naughty with the dramatic wand. See what happens!

Do you see the effect?

I hope you enjoyed reading this post and found it useful.
